When a bathroom is dirty, it takes every fiber of my being to motivate myself to clean it. You see, I love a clean bathroom, love getting ready in there, doing my business in there, zoning out in there, but I find it hard to clean. It’s icky, stinky, and requires some good scrubbing!

We recently did a poll asking on the Clean My Space Community tab and I can tell you that the majority of our 15,000 respondents chose the bathroom. So, let’s review why you hate cleaning the bathroom and take a look at some solid solutions to ease your routine.

Time Consuming

Cleaning the bathroom is one of the most time-consuming areas in the house to clean. Why is it that the smallest spaces in our home require the most amount of time? Well, that’s because there’s a lot going on in the bathroom and there are a lot of little things that require special attention.

All of those gross nooks and crannies, each with their own annoying problem to solve… What’s needed here is a plan! If we have a routine and understand what needs to be done, it will crush the overwhelming dread that comes with cleaning this room. The key here is to put a system in place so you can just go on autopilot and tackle the bathroom easily!

It Stinks

Bathrooms are smelly which can be a bit of a turn-off when it comes to cleaning them, so let’s look at some things that you can do to help combat this and make it a little bit more pleasant.

First, turn the fan on and open the window(s). This will help filter out the bad odors and keep things moving. You can also use an air purifier or an essential oils diffuser. These can help bring a pleasant and fresh scent to the room.

Now, you don’t want to think about this as a masking process. Masking doesn’t really solve the problems, especially if you have ongoing odor issues. For these, it is best to address the underlying issue and do a deep clean.

If your sinks or your shower drain smell, you might need to address cleaning them or fixing their water flow. If you’re getting a stink from your toilet, you’ll want to take out the toilet bowl cleaner and scrub brush. Attack the source of the smell and address the root of the problem.

Hard Water

Hard water, especially in the bathroom, is so hard to clean. Whether it’s on your faucets or build up in your shower, it can be a tough task working to get these hard water spots clean.

I like to use a good calcium lime rust remover or a full-strength vinegar solution for these stains but I always make sure that it’s safe to use on whatever surface I am cleaning. You can also use a water softener and squeegee the glass. If you do that on a regular basis you’ll be well on your way to avoiding any hard water build up over time.

Soap Scum

Soap scum is a major turn off whenever you step into a bath or shower. Ditch the scum by doing two easy things. First, make sure to squeegee your surfaces after every shower. Next, use a good all purpose cleaner to spray and wipe down any scummy surfaces.

The Straight Poop

I always try to approach cleaning the bathroom in a logical way. I start with a plan and make sure I have the right tools.
