Hi there! My name is Melissa Maker, and as some of you may know, I’m the face—and chief floor/laundry/everything washer—behind Clean My Space. For those who don’t, I thought I would take this opportunity to quickly reintroduce myself and Clean My Space, and for those who do… well, hello again! 😉

How Did I Get Into This Cleaning Thing Anyways??

My first job out of university was deeply unsatisfying. I hated the work, and more importantly, I hated the fact I wasn’t following my calling to run my own business. While I hate cleaning, I saw an opportunity in the home cleaning space. I knew there were so many people out there, just like me, who want a clean space but don’t have the time (or skills) to do it themselves. So, I quit my job, and Clean My Space was born. I had to learn to clean from the ground up. My approach was to find the quickest way to get the job done in the most efficient and professional way possible. After months of doing all the cleaning myself, I took what I learned and developed a training system, hired staff, and began to grow the business. More than a decade later our home cleaning business is alive and well and servicing homes across our hometown of Toronto, Ontario.

You should also know that on any given day, my house is about a 7/10 (ok, maybe a 6/10) on the clean scale. I try my best, but like you, I’m busy and do my best to keep up. I’m not perfect and I don’t expect you to be, either.

How Did The Clean My Space Community Start?

In 2011, I decided to share some cleaning tips on YouTube. Turns out there was an appetite for this type of content—from there, our website went up, the first issue of The Dirty Dish went out, and the Clean My Space community began to grow. Since then I’ve written a book on cleaning, started a premium microfiber products business called Maker’s Clean, and I’ve appeared on dozens of television shows and been featured in hundreds of magazines.

My team and I work hard to bring you timely, safe, truthful, and accurate cleaning information (and no wacky, and dangerous, product mixing videos and hacks like we’re seeing all over social media these days, tsk tsk!!).
